Botaniska - patterns

Hej
I went to the Botaniska Garden here in Göteborg. It was a rainy day and I spent a lot of time in the greenhouses. My favourites were the Mountain houses and the Cactus house!
I saw a lot of patterns everywhere, it was very inspiring! As you can imagine I took a lot of pictures. Here is a little selection:

Preview

As you probably now I am printing a lot of new cushion covers. Here is a little sneak peak...  I hope I can sew the others this week and release them in my webshop! You can see the paperprint on the wall too. I am printing a lot on paper lately...

Time for a little DIY project?

Hej!
I have a little DIY project for you! It is very simple, you just need some fabric, textile colour and some water!

I work a lot with watercolour and now I tried to transfer my little experiments I do on paper to fabric.

I used differend kind of papers, a lot of water and watercolour. The dark blue one I pinned to the wall, while it was still wet. I did the same with fabric:

The right one was folded and then dipped into colour. Both samples were hanged on the clothes drying rack while drying.

Here are the instructions for the blue pillowcover:

Take a sponge a apply water to the fabric, it should be quite a lot, so use a wetproof surface.
Then apply the colour with a stencil brush. You can go wild and just apply the colour spontanous, I used a ruler and applied the colour in fixed distances. I wonder if you understand! Do you?
Now you have to hang the wet fabric on the clothes drying rack and wait :)

I like the somehow dotted batic appearance of the pillow. If you try this, please send me a picture :)

Tyvek

I bought some meters of tyvek two years ago and I haven' t really worked with it since...It's an interesting material, looks and crumbles like paper and you can use it like fabric too. It is a nonwoven, waterproof material made of high-density polyethylene fibers. You can read all about it here.

I bought so many flowers for the balcony lately that I ran out of flowerpots. I decided to sew a flowerpot out of tyvek:

This is the result! I really don' t know why I used an orange frame here??!

It is not waterproof, because of the seam. For the balcony it' s sufficient anyway :)

Play

It' s good to play...
One from today' s photoshoot:

Soon you can order this pillows in my shop. Handprinted on organic cotton.

Konstrundan i Majorna 2015

Hej! I will participate in the Konstrundan i Majorna! I live in Majorna and I am really happy to join. It was an spontaneous idea, I am a member of the Konstnärernas Kollektivverkstad in Götebörg and they asked me if I want to be a part of it. You will meet me in the textile department on the 4th floor! It' s a great place! Come by if you are around. A little preview of my creative output of the last 2 weeks:

DIY NEWS

 Hej!
My bubble print diy was featured in the German magazine Eigenwerk! This issue is all about paper and it is filled with a lot of diy projects.

Another project of mine was featured here. It' s my 5-min cushion cover print-project.
I printed a cushion cover for my sister this weekend. Very simpel, just dots in 2 different sizes and colours:

To give it a personal touch I made the most simpel label and sewed it in. It's just a piece of white cotten , folded and printed with an E (for Elena). I used a wooden rubber stamp for it:

This is another cushion cover I printed and sewed last weekend:

That's it for now! Sun is shining, it' s a wonderful day! I saw the first cranes coming back from the south this morning! It made me so happy :)
Have a nice day!

Black and White II

Hej! I finished my new portfolio lately. A lot of black, white and grey. I love colours, but I needed a challenge and I wanted to keep it it simple. The portfolio was a lot digital editing and it made me tired to just sit by the computer. So at home I printed and painted to get a feeling for colour, structure and texture. I want to print a black & white collection for Nordic Design Collective. It took me some time to find organic cotton and I even thought about printing on cotton that is not ecofriendly. Second thought: No way!

Here you can see some of my test prints:

I will tell you more about my little containers soon. I would love to produce the Big Bag in a larger quantity, but it is not possible yet. It is a great bag, you can put a lot of stuff in it ;)

Hej!

This is a new pattern, how do you like it?
   I updated my webpage: www.schmalenbachnina.com
   Take a look!

Say hello

A very simple greetingcard-print-project. You need some blank cards and envelopes, a round stamp (linoleum, you can buy them ready made) and an ink-pad. I also had some neonstickers left...

Choose 3 colours and print your own little collection.Send them to friends and family. Just say hello!

Late summer evenings, the light is so beautiful. Perfect time to sit together and enjoy the city or the nature.
I made some kitschy designs today ( I used the 5th photo).
Happy friday everyone!
